Multi-stage Visible Wavelength and Near Infrared Iris Segmentation Framework

چکیده
This paper presents a multi-stage iris segmentation framework for the localization of pupillary and limbic boundaries of human eyes. Instead of applying time-consuming exhaustive search approaches, like traditional circular Hough Transform or Daugman’s integrodifferential operator, an iterative approach is used. By decoupling coarse center detection and fine boundary localization, faster processing and modular design can be achieved. This alleviates more sophisticated quality control and feedback during the segmentation process. By avoiding databasespecific optimizations, this work aims at supporting different sensors and light spectra, i.e. Visible Wavelength and Near Infrared, without parameter tuning. The system is evaluated by using multiple open iris databases and it is compared to existing classical approaches.

Deep Learning-Based Iris Segmentation for Iris Recognition in Visible Light Environment
Existing iris recognition systems are heavily dependent on specific conditions, such as the distance of image acquisition and the stop-and-stare environment, which require significant user cooperation. In environments where user cooperation is not guaranteed, prevailing segmentation schemes of the iris region are confronted with many problems, such as heavy occlusion of eyelashes, invalid off-a...
متن کاملLiterature review: Iris Segmentation Approaches for Iris Recognition Systems
INTRODUCTION In the recent years, drastic improvements have been accomplished in the areas like iris recognition, automated iris segmentation, edge detection, boundary detection etc. Iris recognition is a biometric recognition technology that utilizes the pattern recognition techniques based on the high quality images of iris. An iris recognition system mainly uses infrared or else the visible ...
متن کاملInformation Fusion for Unconstrained Iris Recognition
The majority of the iris recognition algorithms available in the literature were developed to operate on near infrared images. A desirable feature of iris recognition systems with reduced constraints such as potential operability on commonly available hardware is to work with images acquired under visible wavelength. Unlike in near infrared images, in colour iris images the pigment melanin pres...

متن کاملA Versatile Iris Segmentation Algorithm
In biometric authentication, iris recognition was shown to be one of the most accurate techniques. In unconstrained environment and capture conditions (e.g. with hand-held devices used outdoors), the iris image may be contaminated by noise and distortions which makes the iris segmentation and recognition process difficult. This paper presents a novel iris segmentation algorithm that addresses s...
